Maybe you could tell us your style of travel? That way it would be easier to give you advice. There was a great bit about the famous India head wobble, it had me in stitches. The first edition of the India on a shoestring from LP was a classic read, wonderfully humerous insight into Geoffrey Wheeler's India. It's just personal preference in the end, lots of people swear by the Footprint guide these days, which I occasionaly carry for some extra info.īest of all the LP is now available in PDF so you can load chapters onto a Archos media player or mobile, saves a lot of space. I've only flicked through the India rough guide and wasn't that impressed to be honest, I used them years ago for France same story. I only use a guide for ideas and for finding a cheap hotel anyway, at monuments I usually pick up a few books from the Indian Archeological Society.įor Maps I pick up the ones from IMS at 40 Rupees they're a steal. The only thing I don't like about the LP is that they didn't give me a job, boo hoo. It covers more destinations than you could shake a stick at too. I like the easy to use format, the good listing of budget hotels for all over India, background info on culture etc nice photos, the suggested itineraries are good too.
